Overview

Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus C180 Balakong offers a compelling slice of authentic Indonesian cuisine nestled in the heart of Cheras, Selangor. This modest restaurant, located at Dataran C180, invites diners to experience bold flavors through its signature dish, the Ayam Gepuk—a tender smashed fried chicken served with a uniquely crafted sambal. What sets this sambal apart is the expertly balanced blend of hot oil and peanut sauce, delivering a vibrant yet nuanced heat that awakens the palate.

The menu extends beyond the classic Ayam Gepuk, highlighting delightful accompaniments such as the Fried Cabbage and Nasi Jogja, which have garnered praise for their distinctive taste uncommon to other Malaysian eateries. The Fried Cabbage, in particular, stands out as a must-try for visitors craving something both simple and flavorful, providing a crisp texture and subtle seasoning that complements the rich main dishes.

Meals such as the Sate Jogja combos and a la carte sets offer variety, integrating elements like chicken gizzards, tauhu (tofu), and tempe, paired with fresh cucumber and fragrant rice. This variety caters well to diverse preferences, accommodating both meat lovers and vegetarians alike.

Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus operates in an air-conditioned space, providing a comfortable dining atmosphere even during the bustling lunch hours. The service is noted for its promptness and friendly staff, enhancing the overall experience whether you dine in or order takeaway.

This restaurant primarily attracts locals and Indonesian food enthusiasts seeking an authentic taste of Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage without leaving Selangor. The efficient ordering system, where customers place orders directly at the cashier before receiving their food, helps streamline the experience during peak times.

While some found the tofu component underwhelming, the consensus affirms the chicken’s tenderness and depth of flavor. The standout sambal and the rare Fried Cabbage dish elevate the experience, ensuring that patrons leave with a memorable impression of Indonesian flavors skillfully adapted for the Malaysian palate.

Ordered set C for takeaway. Flavours were good! Chicken was very tender and flavourful but, their tofu was meh (tasted nothing but just air?). Besides the tofu, would definitely come back again!
